On 24-27 February 2011, the Swedish Art and Culture organization, Intercult, gathers artists and international project “Corners” partners and for a meeting in Umeå. Umeå will be the European Capital of Culture 2014. The programme for Umeå 2014 is inspired by the eight seasons of the Sami calendar.

Since April 2010 eight chosen artists from Umeå and Scotland have met and worked together on so called Dates in the following cities: Aberdeen (Scotland), Batumi (Georgia), Istanbul (Turkey), Rijeke (Croatia), Odessa (Ukraine) and Umeå (Sweden). During a few days, the artists have researched a chosen place in the cities and each other to develop new artistic work.

As an exception, the Scottish Theatre Director David Leddy collaborated with a Turkish researcher and cultural producer, Selen Akçalı, the co-founder of SOM. David traveled to Istanbul 23-27 november and spent the days exploring different areas of Istanbul. The two of them continue to develop a project idea based on their experiences.

In February in Umeå the artists will present their ideas for future projects, some of which hopefully will be presented within the framework of "Corners" project, Intercult’s next large international project.
