6th Balkan Dance Platform

The 6th edition of the Balkan Dance Platform 2011 (BDP 2011) will take place 20-24 April 2011 in partnership with the international Exodos Festival for contemporary stage arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia. SOM is one of the Turkish partners of Balkan Dance Platform.

The aim of BDP 2011 is as prior to be a meeting place for the artists and cultural workers in the contemporary dance field, to present the latest productions by the artists from larger Balkan region, to share information and to enhance new collaborations, productions and networking in the region. BDP 2011 follows the biannual nature of the previous editions and celebrates its 10th anniversary by introducing a series of activities which serve the aims of the Platform and meet the needs of the regional artists.

  • 15 works created between 2009-2011 will be presented;
  • Artists from countries not represented by partner organizations can apply and are eligible to participate on the Platform 2011;
  • Potential partners from countries not represented are invited as guests;
  • Performances by Balkan artists (BDP) and international ones (Exodos Festival) during the same days;
  • A market hub where artists can present their ideas and be offered the possibility for co-productions by BDP for the 2013 edition of the Platform;
  • The possibility to tour with performances or workshops or residencies in the partners’ countries will be offered to the artists presented in BDP;
  • Presentation of projects and ideas aiming to support the development of the contemporary dance in the Balkan Region;
  • A workshop of dance dramaturgy with Ivana Ivkovic will be held during the days of the Platform;
  • Formal and informal meetings for the artists and the international visitors as well as a special event for the 10th year anniversary of the Platform.

BDP 2011 will include a large number of participants including artists from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, fYRoM, Slovenia, Croatia, Kosovo and Turkey. To allow equal chance to new and emerging dancers and choreographers to present their work, BDP 2011 has appointed an international jury from the contemporary dance scene: Christina Polychroniadou – director of Full House Promotion (Greece), Iskra Sukarova – artistic director contemporary dance of Lokomotiva Centre for New initiatives in Arts and Culture (fYROM), Nataša Zavolovšek – director of Exodos (Slovenia), Tzvetelina Iossifova –director of The Red House Centre for Culture and Debate (Bulgaria), Selen Akçalı – SOM and Zeynep Gunsur-ACPAI (Turkey), Cosmin Manolescu - Executive Director – The Gabriela Tudor Foundation (Romania) and as associated artist of Exodos festival and curator for the festival 2011, Jan Fabre.

Applications for the festival is closed on December 1st, 2010.

Beside the main festival program there will also be a market hub where artists can present their ideas and be offered the possibility for co-productions by BDP for the 2013 edition of the Platform.
