40 Stations Paris

The idea of the 40 Stations photography project was first created by photographer Muammer Yanmaz in December 2001. The project came to life when Selen Akçalı agreed to manage and coordinate the project in Paris. Yanmaz photographed forty Turkish intellectuals living in Paris in the city’s subway stations in May 2002 and February 2003. The 40 Stations Paris project attracted the interest of the French Cultural Center in Istanbul who decided to sponsor it. 40 Stations Paris was first presented to viewers in the art gallery of the French Cultural Center in Istanbul between the dates of October 23 and November 22, 2003. Muammer Yanmaz’s black‐and‐white photographs drew a lot of attention from art lovers and the press. Another presentation of 40 Stations Paris was held in December 2003 in Bursa. The Paris exhibition occurred between September 6th and 23rd, 2005 in Turkish Tourism Office in Paris. The 40 Stations Paris project was also exhibited in the Stuttgart French Cultural Center in the framework of the Şimdi‐ Now Festival organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) in 2005.
